New PSW Program Launches in Beaverton: Training Today’s Caregivers for Tomorrow

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program in Beaverton is off to an exciting start. Launched in January 2026, the program welcomed its first cohort of students earlier this year, with graduates set to complete their training by the end of June. As this first class prepares to enter the workforce, plans are already underway to welcome a new group of students in September 2026.

Designed to meet the growing demand for skilled, compassionate caregivers, the Beaverton PSW program offers a blend of flexible learning, hands-on experience, and strong employment opportunities following graduation. Understanding that many adult learners are balancing school with work, family, and other responsibilities, the PSW program offers a flexible hybrid learning model. Students complete coursework from home two to three days per week and attend in‑person classes during the day on remaining weekdays. This approach allows students to gain essential knowledge and skills while maintaining a manageable schedule.

Students in the program consistently highlight the welcoming atmosphere, supportive staff, and opportunities for hands‑on learning. Current student Jeannine shared her experience:

"I absolutely loved the PSW program in Beaverton; the calm atmosphere and the amazing, encouraging staff, make every day feel so supportive. The lab is such a great space to get hands-on practice. I feel so inspired to strive for more in my career, and I’m just so glad I chose this path!"
— Jeannine, PSW Student

A key component of the PSW program is the eight‑week placement at the end of the training period. This placement provides students with valuable real‑world experience and includes training at a Long-Term Care facility and a community-based placement. These supervised placements allow students to apply their learning in real care settings, build confidence, and make professional connections that are often instrumental in securing employment after graduation.

Financial Incentives for Graduates

Graduates of the PSW program may be eligible for substantial recruitment and relocation funding through Ontario Health. These incentives are designed to support PSWs as they transition into the workforce:

  • Recruitment incentive of $10,000 for eligible PSWs who commit to 12 months of full‑time employment with a participating employer.
  • Additional incentive of up to $10,000 for PSWs who commit to working in a rural, remote, or northern Ontario community.
  • Additional relocation incentive of up to $10,000 to help cover relocation costs for PSWs who move at least 100 kilometres from their principal residence to work in a rural, remote, or northern community.
