Summer Arts Camp

Summer Arts Camps will provide current Grade 6 to Grade 8 students with an opportunity to strengthen literacy skills and experience areas of the Arts. This is a non-credit program.

During Summer Arts Camp, students will receive a rich and varied arts intensive experience while strengthening literacy and communication skills.

Experiential learning camps "enhance the already rich learning environments of our schools, providing students with alternative ways of engaging their learning." Through the Experiential Learning Cycle students will actively participate, reflect and apply their learning. "The development of a reflective mindset gives students the ability to turn every experience into a learning experience." Dance Camp

The Dance Camp is a creative outlet that will explore several genres of dance. The camp will include learning and creating choreography as well as exploring the Elements of Dance in a variety of ways. Areas of rhythm and movement will be enhanced through different forms of fitness such as strength and stretch exercises, aerobic activities, yoga, pilates, and more! It is a high energy and movement camp that is an opportunity for all dance levels.

Students will expand upon communication, literacy and numeracy skills while learning and creating choreography as well as exploring the Elements of Dance!

Ukulele Camp

Students are invited to experience this enjoyable and rewarding week-long ukulele camp. All experience backgrounds and abilities are welcome as we collaborate in the art of music making. Students will learn fundamental technique and performance skill on the ukulele while learning fun and recognizable songs.

Students will expand upon communication, literacy and numeracy skills while learning new techniques on this instrument!

Students may bring their own ukulele; otherwise, one will be provided.

Musical Theatre Camp

If you are interested in learning more about the art of acting, singing, and how to put it all together for music theatre, then this camp is for you! Students will learn about acting for music theatre, will create a character from a script, and then perform that character! Students will also learn about singing a song for musical theatre, select a song, and perform it. This camp will not only be a lot of fun, but will also provide students with the tools necessary for an audition for a musical, play, or choir, all the while building valuable literacy and self-confidence skills!

Visual Arts Camp - Exploring the Elements of Art

Students will review and learn about the elements of art - line, shape, form, space, colour and texture through various art explorations. In learning about the building blocks of art, students will also create a variety of pieces involving drawing techniques and some mixed media.

Required Materials: Students will be provided with the necessary materials.

The camp will include learning and creating choreography as well as exploring the Elements of Dance in a variety of ways. Students will learn about specific drawing and shading techniques as well as explore pencil crayon application. Students will learn some techniques and skills through a variety of guided drawing and colouring lessons, and then work on differentiated products during their own studio time.

Required Materials: Students will be provided with the necessary materials.

Visual Arts Camp - Watercolour

Students will participate in some guided painting lessons using watercolour. Students will also explore introductory photography skills/techniques and develop an eye for composition.

Required Materials: Students will be provided with the necessary materials needed for this camp.

 

Please note:

  • Students may register for one or more weeks of Arts Camp and have the option to participate in all three weeks if they choose and if there is space.
  • Students may choose to participate in Visual Arts for three weeks as there is a different focus for each week; however they are not eligible to participate in Musical Theatre, Instrumental Music or Dance Camp for more than 1 week.

Transportation

Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the camp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do students need any special knowledge or skills?
No. Students will gain the knowledge and develop and apply the skills during the program.

Is there a cost for this camp?
No. There is no cost for Summer Arts camps.

My child attends a different school board. Can they participate?
Yes.  This camp is available to DCDSB and non-DCDSB students who are in Grades 6-8.

What does my child need to bring to camp?
They are asked to bring a water bottle, snacks, a lunch, and their enthusiasm for the arts!

Registration - Opens March 25, 2026

Please note that camp enrolment will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis as space is limited. Students will be put on a wait list and notified if the camp is full. Parents/Guardians will receive a confirmation email from Continuing Education if the registration is successful.
