Cooking Camp

Cooking Camp is a fun experience with a focus on numeracy for students who have finished Grade 6, 7 or 8. During this week-long camp, students will learn the basics of cooking and baking in a safe kitchen environment while utilizing numeracy skills in fractions, measurement and conversions.

The camp is taught by a certified Durham Catholic District School Board teacher. The instructor is certified by the Department of Health Safe Food Handling and hold CPR and First Aid certification.

Students will prepare two snacks and a lunch each day, as well as participate in numeracy and experiential learning activities. The focus is on a fun and safe environment filled with learning!

Experiential learning camps "enhance the already rich learning environments of our schools, providing students with alternative ways of engaging in their learning." Through the Experiential Learning Cycle, students will actively participate, reflect and apply their learning. "The development of a reflective mindset gives students the ability to turn every experience into a learning experience." Community- Connected Experiential Learning, Ministry of Education, pages 8 & 9.
