LINC & ESL Adult Day Classes Information

Please read all the information below to find out more about the courses being offered. 

Registration is online and open for our DAYTIME and NIGHT CLASSES.

Day School LINC & ESL Classes (closed December 19, 2020 - January 3, 2021):

English classes will be available in two formats this school year:

1. In-Person/Hybrid Classes:  students will be divided into two groups for each class. 

  • Group A: Half of the class will attend in person for 2 hours on Monday & Tuesday each week and online, using D2L learning platform, on Wednesday & Thursday
  • Group B: Half of the class will attend in person for 2 hours on Wednesday & Thursday each week and online, using D2L learning platform, on Monday & Tuesday
  • Friday all students will attend online, using D2L learning platform, and meet with the teacher in person by appointment
  • All students must participate everyday during the scheduled class time
  • Students will be given a schedule and must attend in person only during their Group
  • Schedules made be revised due to class needs
CLB 1 & 2 Mornings (8:45-11:30am) Whitby Language Center

2.  Online Classes: students will attend class online, using D2L learning platform, Monday to Friday, during the scheduled morning or afternoon class times.  The class will be divided into Synchronous Learning (teacher and students at the same time virtually) and Asynchronous Learning (student works online).

CLB 5 & 6 Mornings (8:45-11:30am) Online
CLB 1 & 2 Afternoons ( 12:00 - 2:45pm) Online
CLB 3 & 4 Afternoons ( 12:00 - 2:45pm) Online
CLB 4 & 5 Afternoons ( 12:00 - 2:45pm) Online

Important Information:

  • Technology needed for HYBRID and ONLINE learning formats, in order to complete the online/virtual lessons from home
  • D2L is an online website which will be the learning platform used by all classes
  • Availability of hybrid and online courses will be dependent on site capacity and needs
  • In person/hybrid students will be assigned to be in Group A or Group B which will allow for physical distancing
  • For students who want full day classes only one class can be hybrid
  • Continuous Enrolment for all classes
  • You will be contacted by email when a seat is available for you to start to study

Care for Newcomer Children:

Eligible LINC students can access onsite childcare for their children 19 months-5 years old (Whitby site) while they attend in person classes.

3. Night School ESL classes (closed December 11, 2020 - January 11, 2021): 

All night school classes will be offered in an ONLINE ONLY format , using the D2L Platform and Zoom. The class will be divided into Synchronous Learning (teacher and students at the same time virtually) and Asynchronous Learning (student works online independently, during scheduled class times, with teacher support). Technology is required to participate in the course.

 Citizenship Preparation for ESL Learners

Health and Safety Information

  • Students must self-assess daily for COVID-19 related symptoms before arriving to school (visit https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/
  • Students who are sick must not come to school 
  • Students will be required to wear face coverings/non-medical masks indoors in school 
  • Protective protocols including physical distancing and hand hygiene will be reviewed and practiced at school and through the Health and Safety online module
  • Hand sanitizing stations and pumps will be available in the school and for all classes where there is no sink 
  • Enhanced cleaning of high contact surfaces and washrooms will be implemented  
  • Large gatherings will not occur 
  • Visitors to the school will be limited by appointment only 
  • Where visitors are permitted, they will be limited to designated areas within the school and will be required to wear a mask, follow all school protocols including physical distancing and sanitize their hands 
  • Should a student or staff member exhibit symptoms, the school will work with the public health department to contact trace and test  
  • In the event of an outbreak, there may be a need to transition to online learning for a period of time 
  • Students and staff will be unable to share materials.  This means students must bring their own pens/pencils, notebook, etc.

Please note that visitors are not permitted at the school unless they have booked an appointment with the main office or with a teacher

Students are only permitted to attend class on their scheduled day and time.  Specific information about your day and time to attend school will be sent to you via email.

Students must ensure that the main office has your updated cell phone and email address so that Continuing Education can communicate with you.

Are you a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6 or higher student?  Would you like to further develop your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking?               

Advanced English for the Workplace Program 2020/2021: Find out more about this program and how to register by clicking here.  The Advanced English for the Workplace Program help improve newcomer adults' English skills to prepare for their high school diploma, post-secondary education and/or the workplace.


  • An English Language Assessment is required for all ESL, LINC and Citizenship Preparation for ESL classes

  • All classes are open to Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, Refugee Claimants, and Canadian Citizens 
  • Care for Newcomer Children (Childcare) is available for 18 months to 5-year-old children for DAYTIME LINC qualifying permanent residents
  • All classes require sufficient enrollment to run
  • Most classes have continuous enrollment throughout the school year
  • Proof of Language Proficiency Certificates are only issued once a student has completed a CLB level based on PBLA Guidelines
  • Attendance Policy is in effect for all classes
  • Fee for services classes are NOT available for Visitors, Work Permits, Study Permits that do not fall under the federal or provincial requirements for LINC or ESL classes
