Summer 2022 English Language Classes

Summer Adult English as a Second Language classes will be FULLY ONLINE this summer!

All classes run Monday to Thursday (no classes on Fridays) from July 4-July 28, 2022!

Please note: Spaces are limited and classes are quickly filling up.  You will be notified after you complete the online registration, via email by June 22, 2022.

Adult ESL non-credit classes are free for eligible adult immigrants (REFUGEE CLAIMANT or CONVENTION REFUGEE or PERMANENT RESIDENT or LIVE-IN CAREGIVER or NATURALIZED CANADIAN CITIZEN) and you must have a valid language assessment.

  • Fee for services classes are NOT available for Visitors & Study Permits that do not fall under the federal or provincial requirements for LINC or ESL classes

Online Adult ESL non-credit Summer Day Classes

 CLB 5&6 
 You will:
  • Learn note taking & summarizing
  • Expand your grammar & vocabulary
  • Become more proficient in writing and speaking strategies
  • Learn critical thinking skills
 CLB 7&8 Advanced English

You will:

  • Learn note taking & summarizing
  • Expand your grammar & vocabulary
  • Become more proficient in writing and speaking strategies
  • Improve critical thinking to interpret complex concepts
 CLB 1-3 Listening & Speaking
 You will:
  • Improve your listening & speaking skills for everyday situations
  • Enrich your vocabulary for daily life
  • Improve your pronunciation and intonation
 CLB 4-6 Reading & Writing
  You will:
  • Improve your reading & writing skills to help you reach your goals
  • Improve your spelling and grammar for every day use such as basic email, note writing, working with forms and more
 CLB 6+ Test Preparation for Academic Purposes
 You will:
  • Learn useful test-taking strategies and skills for IELTS/TOEFL/CELPIP and other standardized tests
  • Improve reading comprehension, essay writing, listening and speaking skills
  • Expand on skimming and scanning techniques for test taking
  • Practice exam questions

All classes will be online using Zoom virtual platform and D2L learning platform

Students must participate in class 4 days per week

  • No Night Classes are offered June-September 2022

  • D2L is an online website which will be the learning platform used by all classes
  • Availability of courses will be dependent on capacity and needs
  • You will be contacted by email when a seat is available for you to start to study

3. Important Information:

  • Attendance Policy - students must participate each day (Monday - Thursday) using the Zoom and D2L platforms.  Poor attendance will result in removal from the class

4. Need Technology?

  • Technology Required - Online students must have a computer, Chromebook, tablet or laptop to participate in the class.
    • If you only have a cellphone/smartphone you will not be able to fully participate in the class.  
  • The Ajax Library has a lending/borrowing program available for residents of Durham.
