You are Closer than You Think to earning Your High School Diploma

On Tuesday, October 22, 2019 secondary school administrators and guidance teachers gathered at Archbishop Anthony Meagher Catholic Continuing Education Centre to learn about Prior Learning Assessments and Recognition (PLAR), in order for mature students (18+) to earn their high school diploma.  PLAR helps adult learners earn high school credits based on previous learning or life and work experiences.

“PLAR offers students hope and helps mature students graduate faster,” noted Stacey Ritchie, Vice-Principals at Archbishop Anthony Meagher Catholic Continuing Education Centre. “In the past year, PLAR Assessors at Archbishop Anthony Meagher CCEC supported a 130% increase in the number of equivalency credits earned by students.”

For secondary school staff, being able to offer at risk students another option for achieving their OSSD is critical to providing students with hope and empowering them to succeed.
